Letters are popping up in mailboxes of new homebuyers from a company charging $89 to send a copy of their property deed. This is a scam. There is no cost to view and print/save a copy of your deed online and it’s only just a few dollars to request a certified hardcopy through the Lee County Clerk’s Office.

“Don’t be tricked into paying private companies to get copies of public records. Your deeds, mortgages and other official records can be downloaded for free at leeclerk.org. You can also get hardcopies in person at the Clerk’s office for only $1 per page.”

The Clerk’s office also offers a free official record monitoring service. Property Fraud Alert emails notifications to subscribers when a deed, mortgage or other land record with their registered name on it has been recorded into the Clerk’s Official Records.
