Fort Myers – Rich in History, Diverse in Lifestyle

If you are thinking about purchasing Fort Myers real estate or are starting to learn about the city, you’ll soon find our local treasure is the Edison-Ford Winter Estates.

When Thomas Edison established his winter home and laboratory in Fort Myers back in the 19th century, he had predicted millions of people would find out about this town and want to come here and enjoy its nature and warm weather. Mr. Edison was right. Fort Myers has become a wonderful destination for people from all over the world.

edisonIncorporated in 1886, Fort Myers is the oldest city in Lee County. Historically known for its past residents, Mr. Thomas Edison, Mr. Henry Ford and Mr. Harvey Firestone, this area is filled with colorful history and old style ambiance.

Mr. Edison had planted palm trees along McGregor Boulevard, which runs along the Caloosahatchee River, and others followed, and thus forever giving Fort Myers the “City of Palms” moniker.

Fort Myers real estate offers a variety of options, from downtown living in high-rises or “old Florida” historical bungalows, to yachting communities, golf communities, gated family communities, and everything in between.

The city is revitalizing downtown, but it already has some big draws, including the historic Edison & Ford Winter Estates and the JetBlue Park , where the Boston Red Sox play during spring training starting in spring of 2012, and the Lee County Sports Complex host of Minnesota Twins spring training.

Monthly and annual events such as the Art Walk and Music Walk street fairs are hosted downtown Fort Myers all year round.
